Liver Cancer May Have Own Microbial Signature
People with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) have a distinct “cancer-prone microbiome” that increases inflammation and may predispose them to liver cancer, researchers in Japan have reported.
Data presented at Japan Digestive Disease Week 2016 (abstract IP-31_H) showed that patients with HCC have increased populations of eight bacterial taxa and increased metabolic activity in two pathways that have been linked to inflammation.
