PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) -- Over 60 people may have been exposed to disease because devices used in colonoscopies may not have been properly cleaned at a southern Colorado hospital.
The San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center has identified 64 patients who had colonoscopies between July 17 and Aug. 13 and is asking them to be tested for hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV.
The Pueblo Chieftain reported Tuesday that 47 patients have been tested so far. They are still waiting for their test results.
An automated machine was installed to clean colonoscopy devices on July 17. Testing on Aug. 13 found E. coli, the most common bacteria in human intestines.
