WEST ORANGE, NJ — One West Orange resident had a special reason to be grateful World Hepatitis Day on July 28, having recently been cured of his chronic hepatitis C, after suffering from it for 15 years, thanks to a new prescription drug that has taken the medical world by storm.
Harvoni is indeed proving to be the hepatitis C drug for which many people have waited, offering an effective solution with minimal side effects and without the need to take multiple pills and combine medicines. Clinical studies have shown that 96 to 99 percent of patients who had no prior treatment were cured by the drug after 12 weeks. Since January, more than 250,000 prescriptions have been filled in the United States.
