PITTSBURGH -
The University of Pittsburgh's School of Dental Medicine is accused in a lawsuit of being negligent and using dirty tools to treat a patient.

Conroy Griffie told Channel 4 Action News' Paul Van Osdol he was in disbelief when he received a startling letter from the school a week after having one of his teeth pulled.
The letter said, "...the instruments utilized during your appointment in the Emergency Clinic were not disinfected to our usual standards."

Griffie said he initially thought it must have been a joke.
But after reading that he could be at risk of HIV, hepatitis and other infectious diseases, he realized it was anything but a laughing matter.

"Not in my wildest dreams could I imagine I would go for something like that or they would expose me to something like that. I thought I was safe, in good hands," said Griffie.
He went to a clinic for a series of blood tests over a nine-month period, and it was determined that he was physically healthy.

But Griffie said he's suffered emotionally.

"My anxiety level is through the roof. I've had all sorts of problems, emotional problems, lost relationships," he said.

Last week, he filed a lawsuit accusing the dental school of negligence.
